Maurizio Cattelan has taken over Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie with NIGHT, his first major solo exhibition in Germany.

The exhibition brings together important earlier works and new commissions inside Mies van der Rohe’s glass-and-steel landmark — probably an appropriately serious setting for an artist who has spent decades refusing to behave seriously.
Cattelan’s work tends to sit somewhere between funny, uncomfortable and slightly impossible to ignore. NIGHT doesn’t exactly promise an easy museum afternoon, but that’s part of the appeal.
If Berlin is on the calendar anytime before March, put this one on the list.
